The Seattle Times - Review by Nancy Leson

Chef/owner Laurent Gabrel, late of Figaro Bistro, took up residence at this sweet little Madison Valley venue, painted the walls Dijon-yellow, hung them with a grand mirror and oversized French posters, and - Voilà! - opened as Voilà! With casual service, a full bar and a short list of bistro classics including pâté de campagne, coq au vin, steak frites and boeuf bourguigon, Voilà! should appeal to anyone in search of a good meal at a great price. Open for lunch and dinner.

Head for the 'hoods - Review by Nancy Leson

Now at home in Madison Valley, chef Laurent Gabrel, former owner of Queen Anne's late Figaro Bistro, has dug in his very French heels. Hewing to the French-bistro tradition, he delights neighbors with modestly priced classics offered at lunch and dinner. With petite bar, a dozen cafe tables, Dijon-yellow walls and oversized French posters, Voilà! tenders an invitation to relax and enjoy. Do so over an aperitif, spreading roughly textured pâte de campagne on rustic bread before sampling a superb crème brûlée. Order a carafe of vin rouge, then bask in the rich, wintry braise of boeuf bourguignon or bacon-scented coq au vin. Trust your lust and indulge in a blue-cheese-sauced bowl of fresh mussels, best eaten with a side of sinfully delicious frites. - Link -

The Stranger - Review by Sara Dickerman

Voila!'s bistro menu isn't entirely predictable, although to be sure, one can order coq au vin, pâté, and even the occasional frog leg special. The salads, for example, are lovely, and the spicy North African merguez is really succulent and decidedly lamb-y. Voilà! seems to have its act together, plus it's a decidedly modest-priced meal in the company of its steeper neighbors.

AOL City Guide - Review by Ginny Morey

Laurent Gabrel, has opened his authentic French bistrot (the space streamlined and spruced up with buttery yellow walls against dark wood) across the street from Rover's. Where few could afford to dine at Rover's every night, that's where Voila! comes in: the menu offers an authentic Gallic selection of modestly priced starters, entrees, sides and desserts. Alongside the familiar onion soup, a rarer fish soup makes an appearance, as do pate de campagne and hearts of palm with fennel. Opt for a bottle of St. Emilion Bordeaux (which goes nicely with just about everything). Entrees are studies in simplicity, including coq au vin, boeuf Bourguignon and grilled Merguez sausage, and tagliatelle with wild mushrooms. Finish with a classic dessert, such as lemon tart, crème brulee, tarte tatin, or chocolate-drizzled profiteroles, and linger over an Armagnac at the small bar, daydreaming of your last sojourn in Paris. - Link -

Seattle Post-Intelligencer - Review by Penelope Corcoran

Voilà! Bistrot is the latest French food venue from former Figaro Bistro owner Laurent Gabrel. Situated in Madison Valley, just up the road from tony Madison Park, it joins established culinary neighbors like Harvest Vine, Rover's and Chinoise as one more reason to mark the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Way (28th Avenue East) and Madison Street in the mapping device of your choice.
